Barclay Rex
Founded in 1910, Barclay Rex is the last family-owned tobacconist in New York City. In 2018, when the legendary cigar shop and lounge relocated to a 4-story brick building in the heart of Manhattan’s Financial District, the founder’s grandson chose Fahey to create a contemporary version of the beloved institution, while respecting its rich history.
Experts in adaptive reuse, Fahey transformed the 6,600 square foot structure into a modern, multi-level haven for tobacco aficionados, with a private, members-only cigar lounge, the Rex Club, one flight up from the 1,000 square foot retail space. One flight down from the main store, on the lower level, there’s another comfortable and inviting cigar lounge that’s open to the public.
